How a GPS tracker keeps your bike safe

Bikes are light enough to lift into a van in a minute. Here’s how a hidden tracker warns you at the first touch, and helps you stop and find the bike.

Why bikes are easy to steal

A bike doesn’t need to be started to be stolen. Two people can lift it into a van or onto a pickup in under a minute, and a lock on the handlebar or disc doesn’t stop that.

That’s why the most useful alerts aren’t just “your bike moved”. They are the small signs before it: someone handling it at night, the bike moving while the ignition is off, or the tracker’s wires being cut.

Step 1: hide the tracker where thieves don’t look

LYRA Trace, under the seatWired to the bike’s batteryOut of sight, always on

LYRA Trace is a small wired tracker. It is usually fitted under the seat or inside a side panel and connected to the bike’s battery, so it never needs charging and nobody can see it from outside.

Get it installed by someone who knows your bike’s wiring. If you want remote engine cut (step 3), the installer also fits a relay at the same time.

Tip: Tell the installer not to put the tracker in the obvious places, like behind the headlight or tied to the handlebar.

Step 2: know the moment someone touches it

When you park for the night, tap Safe Parking in the LYRA app. It remembers that exact spot. If the bike is moved more than about 60 m, the app sounds a theft alarm on your phone, even if the engine was never started.

Trace also sends a vibration alarm when someone handles the bike, a towing alert when it moves with the ignition off, and a power-cut alert if someone disconnects the tracker. Together they tell you something is wrong while there’s still time to act.

  • Safe Parking: alarm if the parked bike moves about 60 m
  • Vibration alarm: someone is handling it
  • Towing detection: moving with the ignition off
  • Power-cut tamper alert: tracker wires disconnected
  • Ignition ON alert when you aren’t riding

Step 3: stop it and find it

✂Engine cut sentWon’t start on its next ignition↗Live location sharedLink sent to family · police

Follow the bike live on the map. If it’s being ridden away, send Engine Cut from the app. The engine won’t start on its next ignition attempt, so once the thief stops, they can’t ride off again. Engine cut needs the relay fitted during installation.

Share a live location link in one tap with family, or with the police, so they see the same moving dot you see. Use engine cut only when it’s safe. Never try to stop a thief yourself.

Everyday uses, not just theft

The same tracker helps every day. Draw a geofence around home and college to know when a young rider leaves or arrives. Get overspeed alerts. Replay any day’s trips with distance and stops. That’s useful for delivery riders and for keeping service records.

  • Geofence alerts for home, college or office
  • Overspeed alerts
  • Trip history with distance, stops and speed
  • Works on cars, cabs and trucks too

Quick checklist

  1. Get LYRA Trace installed out of sight (add the relay if you want engine cut)
  2. Install the LYRA app and log in
  3. Turn on Safe Parking every time you park for the night
  4. Add geofences for home and work
  5. Save the share-location option for an emergency
